NGC 247 is located 11.8 million light-years away from us, with a diameter of about 70,000 light-years. The galaxy's angular size is 19.2 by 5.5 arcminutes. NGC 247 features a prominent void visible in photographs, earning it the nickname the Needle's Eye Galaxy. It is situated in the constellation Cetus. Observing it is challenging from mid-latitudes in Russia. Nearby lies a group of four galaxies known as Burbidge's Chain. This galaxy group is approximately 350 million light-years away, nearly 30 times farther than NGC 247.
