Spiral galaxy NGC 253 is located in the constellation Sculptor. At the latitude of Moscow, it does not rise more than 10 degrees above the horizon. In Adygea, at latitude 44, it reaches a maximum altitude of 20 degrees. The galaxy has a high content of interstellar dust and powerful star formation. Distance is about 8 million light-years. Diameter is about 90,000 light-years. Apparent size is 29.0' × 6.8'.
