Very cool! I'm not even sure what's more impressive here, the final result or the 16.5-minute exposure! How did you align the polar axis so perfectly that there wasn't a single flaw over 16 minutes, even with guiding!?
Thank you. :) I aligned Polaris using drift alignment. Even though my equipment is packed away after each session, it can be repositioned with fairly high accuracy, so I don’t need to realign Polaris from scratch each time. It’s also important to choose a guide star as close to the center of the frame as possible. It doesn’t have to be exactly centered—that’s often not possible—but as close as you can get. Then everything works fine. Plus, my lens has a fairly short focal length, so my polar alignment accuracy is more than enough.
