SN 2026aaiv — is a supernova. It was discovered on September 1, 2026, using the ATLAS system. It exploded in the spiral galaxy NGC 7331 (sometimes also called Caldwell 30). This galaxy is located approximately 40–45 million light-years from us, in the constellation Pegasus. By the way, NGC 7331 is very similar to our Milky Way in size, shape, and mass.
By classification, it is a Type Ia supernova. This type of explosion occurs in a binary system: a white dwarf pulls matter from a companion star until an uncontrolled thermonuclear reaction is triggered, which destroys the white dwarf.
