The Sculptor Galaxy (NGC 253), also called the Silver Coin Galaxy, is a bright intermediate barred spiral galaxy located roughly 11.4 million light-years away in the constellation Sculptor. Discovered by Caroline Herschel in 1783, it is a famous starburst galaxy with rapid star formation and a central supermassive black hole.
