Here is the second supernova in my small collection. I managed to capture it on the night of May 7, 2026.
SN 2026kid is a supernova discovered by Japanese astronomer Yasuo Sano on April 22, 2026, in the galaxy NGC 5907 (the "Splinter") in the constellation Draco.
It is a Type II supernova. The explosion is associated with the core collapse of a massive star weighing between 8 and 40 solar masses. At its peak brightness, such a star emits more energy than hundreds of billions of stars in a galaxy combined.
