M33 Triangulum Galaxy

**Triangulum Galaxy** (**M 33**, **NGC 598**) — a spiral galaxy of type Sc, one of the closest galaxies to the Milky Way, located 850 kiloparsecs away. It belongs to the Local Group and ranks third in size, mass, and luminosity after the Andromeda Galaxy and the Milky Way.

In terms of its parameters, M 33 is generally unremarkable among galaxies of its type. Its diameter is 18.8 kiloparsecs, half that of the Milky Way, and it contains 40 billion stars, while our galaxy has an estimated 100 to 400 billion. The galaxy's main component is its disk. Its spiral arms are fragmented and not tightly wound. It has a faint bulge and a visible halo. The nucleus is bright and compact, with no supermassive black hole.
