The Dumbbell Nebula M27 is one of the most famous planetary nebulae, located in the constellation Vulpecula at a distance of 1,250 light-years from Earth. It was discovered by astronomer Charles Messier in 1781 and is one of the youngest (3-4 thousand years) and brightest nebulae (+7.4 magnitude). It can be observed with 10x50 binoculars, but a telescope with an objective diameter of 80 mm or more is required for detailed study.
