It is one of the largest and oldest impact craters on the Moon, with a diameter of about 230 km. It is located in the southwestern part of the Moon's near side, south of the crater Tycho. An interesting feature immediately catches the eye: inside Clavius, there is a chain of smaller craters forming a curved arc.
