While waiting for my equatorial mount, I decided to try deep-sky imaging for the first time with what I had on hand. My gear was modest—a Celestron NexStar 6/8 SE alt-azimuth mount and a Canon DSLR. So, this was shot unguided, without filters, and with no other accessories.

Before shooting, you need to polar align the equatorial mount more precisely. Then you can use fairly long exposures!

In a white zone, there is no way; you either need to use narrowband filters or drive far out of town to at least a blue zone.
