Fragment of the North America Nebula NGC 7000, this is an emission nebula in the constellation Cygnus. It resembles the outline of the North American continent with the Gulf of Mexico. The nebula was first observed by William Herschel in 1786. It was named after the shape that resembles the North American continent. Well, to me it resembles Italy (the boot).
