Monkey Head Nebula (or NGC 2170) is a bright emission nebula located in the constellation Orion. It got its name because on early astronomical images it resembled a monkey's head.
The nebula is located at a distance of approximately 2.4 thousand light years from Earth. It consists of gas and dust that glow due to ultraviolet radiation from stars located inside or near it. Inside the nebula, processes of new star formation are taking place.
