Caldwell 27 Crescent Nebula. This image was produced in dual narrowband with hydrogen appearing red and oxygen appearing blue. The Nebula is 5,000 light years from Earth and is formed by fast stellar winds from the central "Wolf-Rayet star" (WR 136) colliding with slower gas ejected during its earlier red giant phase. It is expected to end its life in a powerful supernova explosion in the next 100,000 years or so. The image was taken on my 8" Edge HD telescope with 0.7x reducer giving a focal length of 1.4 metres, and using an Ioptron L-Para filter into an Altair 26C camera and captured in Sharpcap. 120 x 60 second exposures with guiding in PHD2. Imaging processing in Pixinisght with RC Astro tools.
