2-Panel Mosaic: Processing Workflow & Technical Data

Hi everyone! Sharing the processing steps and technical details for my latest 2-panel mosaic project.

Technical Specifications
  • Mode: AZ / EQ / Mosaic

  • Filter: Dual-Band Astro Filter

  • Lights:

    • Day 1: 241 x 90s (Gain 60)

    • Day 2: 249 x 90s (Gain 60)

Processing Workflow 1. Pre-processing & Initial Calibration (Siril)
  • Stacked both mosaic panels separately using the Naztronomy script.

  • Performed Astrometry and Photometric Color Calibration (PCC) on each individual panel.

  • Background extraction on each panel using GraXpert.

2. Mosaic Assembly (PixInsight)
  • Ran ImageSolver on both panels to ensure accurate coordinates.

  • Used MosaicByCoordinates to align the frames.

  • Merged the panels seamlessly using GradientMergeMosaic.

3. Enhancements (SetiAstroSuite Pro)
  • Applied Cosmic Clarity for targeted sharpening and initial noise reduction.

4. Post-Processing & Final Touch (Siril)
  • StarNet++ integration for star extraction to process the background independently.

  • Applied Generalized Hyperbolic Stretch (GHS) to the starless background.

  • Final pass of Cosmic Clarity Denoise for a cleaner background.

  • Recomposed the stars back into the image using StarNet++.

Clear skies! Let me know if you have any questions about the workflow.
