A slight correction. The crater is named after the ancient Greek philosopher and astronomer, Posidonius, while he, in turn, is most likely named after the Greek god of the sea, Poseidon.
Very fitting, I also fell for that trick once. What is an ancient Greek god doing among scientists and philosophers?! :) Though there's still plenty of interesting stuff about crater naming.
