On April 6, 1997, Comet Hale–Bopp (C/1995 O1) was clearly visible to the naked eye. The comet's tail stretched more than 10 degrees.
The image was captured from a stationary tripod using a Kiev-19 film camera with a Mir-24 lens (35mm f/2) and standard 125 ISO black-and-white film.
