The stars Deneb, 62 Cygni, and the North America Nebula (NGC 7000) and Pelican Nebula (IC 5070) are emission nebulae in the constellation Cygnus. The Pelican and North America Nebulae are parts of one large star-forming region with a complex structure, nearly as close to us as the more famous Orion Nebula. From our perspective, dark dust clouds outline the eye and long beak of the pelican, while a bright front of ionized gas resembles the bird’s curved neck and head.
