This is exactly manual focus to infinity, it's just that in the gray zone the stars are plump, bright, colorful—I'd even say it's a bit uncomfortable for the eyes if you look at it for too long.
By the way, there really is defocus in this image—I misfocused. I checked yesterday while zooming in, and the defocus turned out to be huge. For some reason, I thought focusing at infinity was the extreme position of the slider, but it turns out it's not.
