Hello!!! I'm asking about OnStep. I also have OnStep v5 for an EQ3-2, but the maximum exposure I can do with it is 10 seconds. If I set it longer, the stars stretch into trails with my Canon EOS 7D and Celestron AstroMaster 130. I set everything up very precisely. Do you know what the problem might be?

Good afternoon. I think the issue is with the polar alignment settings. And also, a guide scope is definitely needed.

And what do you use to control OnStep?

In theory, you don't really need to touch it at all—just start it and that's it. Here's what I do: I set up the polar alignment, then I plate-solve using three stars (this isn't strictly necessary, but I find it more convenient). After that, I use Stellarium on my phone—I can tap any object and it slews to it. Or, for example, in APT, there's an auto-slew feature: it slews a couple of times, takes pictures of stars, determines the position automatically, and centers the target.

By the way, if needed, you can write to me on WhatsApp or Telegram at +79287560089. If there's anything I know, I'll be happy to help.
