M8 is a giant star-forming region and an H II region in the constellation Sagittarius. Under favorable conditions, it is faintly visible to the naked eye.
It is located at a distance of 5,200 light-years. Its physical size is 70 by 30 light-years. Its apparent size is 90' by 40'.
M20 is the Trifid Nebula (M 20, NGC 6514).
It is located at a distance ranging from 2,000 to 9,000 light-years.
Its size is about 50 light-years.
Its apparent size is 20 arcminutes.
