M 31 The Andromeda Galaxy, is the nearest major spiral galaxy to our Milky Way, located about 2.5 million light-years away from Earth. It's diameter is roughly 200'000 light-years.

It contains one trillion stars. At its center lies a supermassive black hole with a mass of roughly 100 million times that of our Sun, surrounded by a very dense and unusual double stellar nucleus.
