Photo description / processing
The Capercaillie Nebula (VdB 152) lies in the constellation of Cepheus, embedded in a vast region of cosmic dust. It is a reflection nebula, where the faint light of a young star illuminates the surrounding dark clouds. Its graceful shapes inspired the nickname "Capercaillie Nebula," as they resemble the silhouette of a capercaillie bird in flight. A hidden jewel on the outskirts of the Milky Way.
Look closely and you'll also spot a Herbig–Haro object (HH 450): the orange-turning-to-red tiny spot just to the left of the "beak."
The data were acquired at a privately owned remote observatory using an ARTEC250 Newtonian telescope, an ASI2600MM camera, Optolong LRGBH filters, and a 10Micron GM2000 HPS mount. Individual exposures were 360 seconds for LRGB channels and 900 seconds for Hα at -5 °C, resulting in a total integration time of approximately 90 hours.
