LDN 1251 is a dense molecular cloud of gas and dust. It does not emit its own light and is visible due to illumination from stars located behind the nebula. Distant galaxies can be seen through the less dense regions. It is located in Cepheus at a distance of about 1000 light-years. It spans about 35 light-years. Its apparent size is about 2 degrees.
