LDN 1251 is a dense molecular cloud of gas and dust that emits no light of its own and is visible thanks to the illumination of stars located behind the nebula. Distant galaxies can be seen through its less dense regions. It lies in Cepheus at a distance of about 1,000 light-years. It spans about 35 light-years. Its apparent size is about 2 degrees.
